FORMER police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. recorded “no deception indicated” when he took a polygraph examination regarding his sworn affidavit alleging the delivery of suitcases containing cash to Vice President Sara Duterte and members of her family.
Conducted at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, September 30, the test was designed to verify the truthfulness of his September 14 statement, in which he claimed to have handed over funds to the Vice President, former President Rodrigo Duterte, and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte. The official result stated there were “no specific physiological reactions indicative of deception” during the examination.
Gracioso, who previously served as a security aide to former House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, has alleged that he carried out the cash deliveries on Velasco’s instructions.
The NBI has emphasized that the polygraph result is only one part of a broader validation process and does not by itself establish the truth of the claims. Investigators are also subjecting supporting evidence, including photographs and documents, to authentication and verification, and have invited the Dutertes and the Velascos to submit their own statements in response to the allegations.
Vice President Duterte has firmly denied knowing Gracioso or receiving any money from him, dismissing his claims as fabricated and politically motivated.
The polygraph finding adds a new dimension to the inquiry, though authorities have noted that such results are not conclusive proof of veracity and may be challenged. The NBI has also cautioned that Gracioso could face perjury charges if his statements are ultimately disproven. The investigation remains ongoing, with further interviews and evidence reviews scheduled in the coming days.
