THE national government will distribute another round of financial support to 7.5 million low‑income households reeling from rising oil prices triggered by renewed tensions in the Middle East.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. made the announcement in a video statement released Thursday, outlining the expanded Uplift Assistance Program to be carried out by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The initiative is designed to ease the impact of higher fuel costs on household budgets and help families keep up with daily expenses.
The aid will be delivered through three separate categories covering different vulnerable sectors. First, 1.5 million verified low‑income workers and their families registered with the Social Security System will receive ₱2,000 monthly from July to December, totaling ₱12,000 over six months.
Meanwhile, 3.5 million beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and the Walang Gutom Program will get a one‑time grant of up to ₱2,000. The government will also extend assistance to 2.5 million poor and near‑poor households identified via the 2024 Community‑Based Monitoring System.
“Under this program, immediate aid will be provided to 7.5 million households, or 37.5 million Filipinos, across the country,” the President said. He emphasized that the goal is to ensure families can continue meeting their basic needs while broadening coverage so more vulnerable groups receive help. The program reflects the administration’s effort to respond quickly to external economic pressures and safeguard the welfare of the most affected sectors.
