SENATOR Win Gatchalian urges the Senate Committee on Public Services to look into the performance of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), as regulating body, for allowing the operator (NLEX Corporation) of North Luzon Expressways to impose toll rate increase despite poor services to motorists.
During Monday’s hearing, August 5, 2024, Gatchalian said the mandate of TRB is to protect the motorists and ensure its consumers that they experience the best possible services. “Aside from looking at the services being provided by the operator, we should look at the mandate and performance of the regulator,” Gatchalian said.
“Regulator should protect us all, but if they allow the rate to increase without looking at the service, what is the use of the regulator? So we should also look at the performance of the regulator (TRB) other than the performance of the operator,” he added.
Gatchalian is protesting the toll rate increase because despite faulty RFID, flooding, and heavy traffic additional toll rate pushed through on June 4, 2024. (Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau)
