Gabriela urges SC to discipline Sia for sexist remarks

admin April 7, 2025

THE Gabriela Women’s Party has filed a complaint with the Supreme Court (SC) calling for disciplinary action against lawyer Christian Sia, who is running for congressman in Pasig City, for making offensive remarks about single mothers.

In a letter submitted to the SC, Gabriela requested Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo to investigate Sia for his statements made at a campaign rally, which allegedly alluded to sexual relations with single mothers.

Gabriela argued that Sia’s behavior and language, unbecoming of a lawyer, were disrespectful and degrading towards women. The group called for appropriate sanctions to be imposed on Sia.

“It is in this regard that we are writing this Honorable Court to respectfully look into the incident involving Atty. Sia and to act on the matter by imposing any disciplinary action as the Honorable Court may deem fit and proper,” Gabriela stated.

The Supreme Court has the authority to conduct investigations “moto propio” or on its own initiative against members of the judiciary.

Gabriela argued that Sia’s apology for his remarks was insufficient. They asserted that his actions, as a member of the judiciary, undermined and trivialized the Supreme Court’s efforts to maintain public trust and credibility.
