GABRIELA Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas challenged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to allow the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the war on drugs.
The lawmaker said that the ICC is the only hope for the families of the victims of the war on drugs to achieve justice, even if Congress conducts its own investigation.
“Committee hearings can only do so much. The government must decisively act to provide justice for the thousands of victims of extrajudicial killings under the Duterte regime’s brutal drug war,” Brosas said.
She mentioned that through the ICC, those responsible for the war on drugs can be held accountable regardless of their positions in the government or the extent of their influence.
“Many women have been widowed, and children orphaned due to these senseless killings. The government has an obligation to ensure that their cries for justice are heard and addressed,” the lawmaker added.
