THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has warned fugitives from other countries not to attempt to use the country to evade their crimes in their home countries.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Normal Tansingco said that the agency has a close coordination with foreign governments which send information about wanted fugitives who face arrest, deportation and blacklisting.
He made the comment after the arrest of a South Korean national wanted in his country on “pimping” charges.
Oh Myunggyun, 49, was applying for an extension of his temporary visitor’s visa last Wednesday, when he was arrested by authorities after he was found to be the subject of a warrant of arrest in South Korea for reportedly arranging commercial sex acts.
The BI also discovered that the Korean’s passport had already been canceled by the South Korean government.
Tourist Visa Section Chief Raymond Remigio apprehended Oh after officers Mark Vallejo and Lourdes Maliksi discovered his active derogatory record.
The fugitive was turned over to the BI’s holding facility in Taguig City pending deportation procedures.
