SENATOR Chiz Escudero has vehemently denied allegations made by former DPWH Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo, who testified before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, linking the senator to the ongoing flood control scandal.
“I vehemently deny the malicious allegations and innuendos made by former DPWH Usec. Roberto Bernardo in today’s Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. By his own admission, he never had any contact with me directly regarding this matter. I will prove that he is lying about my alleged involvement,” the senator stated in a released statement.
The senator suggested that there is a deliberate effort to target the Senate and its members, aiming to discredit the institution and divert attention from the true culprits.
“It seems like there is a well-orchestrated plan to attack the Senate and its members to destroy and discredit the institution and to divert the public’s attention from the real perpetrators,” the senator added.
The senator questioned the focus on senators, asking about the involvement of Zaldy Co and Representative Martin Romualdez, as well as their alleged accomplices.
The senator expressed disbelief that, based on Bernardo’s testimony, these individuals appear to be without fault or involvement.
Despite the allegations, the senator vowed to confront and fight the accusations, stating intentions to file appropriate charges against Undersecretary Bernardo for making baseless accusations. Highlighting a career of over 27 years in public service without any prior corruption charges, the senator expressed confidence that their name and service will remain untarnished once all the facts are revealed.
