PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Monday formalized his bid to run for senator in 2022 elections, said long-time aide Senator Bong Go.
“Kung ako lang tatanungin, ayaw ko din na VP ang i-file nya. Ayaw ko magkasakitan pa. Tama na ako na lang ang nasaktan. Mataas respeto ko kay pangulo at sa kanyang pamilya. Sana Senador na i-file niya,” Go said in a text message to reporters.
The President filed his Certificate of Candidacy on Monday, putting his plans to retire from politics on hold. His COC was submitted to the Commission on Elections by his lawyer, Melchor Aranas. He replaced Mona Liza Visorde.
Duterte will run under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan party. On Saturday, his daughter Sara Duterte filed her candidacy for vice president after dropping her re-election bid for Davao City mayor. On the same day, Sen. Bong Go, the president’s long-time aide, amended his candidacy to president from vice president.
