GOVERNMENT prosecutors have announced the filing of charges against controversial inmate Jad Dera, a plantilla security officer, and five job order (JO) employees following their unauthorized trip outside of the National Bureau o Investigation (NBI) Detention Center.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has resolved to charge Dera, along with JO personnel Arnel Ganzon, Diana Rose Novelozo, Lee Eric Loreto, King Jeroh Martin, and Pepe Piedad Jr., for violating Article 156 of the Revised Penal Code, which pertains to the delivery of prisoners from jail.
Randy Godoy, an NBI Security Officer II, will also face charges for violating Article 223 of the Revised Penal Code.
“The criminal charges against the respondents will be filed at the Metropolitan Trial Court of Manila City,” stated the Department of Justice.
Following a thorough evaluation of the evidence, the assigned prosecutor has determined that there is sufficient basis to proceed with the trial against the respondents.
Probable cause has been established, indicating that Dera induced Godoy, Ganzon, Novelozo, Loreto, Martin, and Piedad to assist him in escaping from prison, and that Godoy, Ganzon, Novelozo, Loreto, Martin, and Piedad facilitated Dera’s escape from the detention facility.
Dera recently attracted significant media attention when he, accompanied by six NBI security personnel, was apprehended during an unauthorized furlough.
The incident unfolded when Dera attempted to re-enter the NBI detention facility in Manila.
