DOH pre-positions P31M in medicines nationwide; P180M more on standby

admin July 22, 2025

THE Department of Health (DOH) has pre-positioned approximately P31 million worth of medicines across the country in anticipation of emergencies related to the ongoing inclement weather.

DOH Spokesperson Undersecretary Albert Domingo announced this in a palace briefing, specifying that these pre-positioned supplies are strategically located in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Northern Mindanao. These essential medicines include antibiotics (cotrimoxazole and amoxicillin), pain relievers (mefenamic acid), fever reducers (paracetamol), diarrhea treatment (oresel), cough suppressants (lagundi), and skin ointments.

The pre-positioned supplies also include hygiene kits, water containers, chlorine tablets for water purification, and breastfeeding kits for mothers.

In addition to the P31 million already deployed, an additional P180 million worth of emergency medicines remains on standby, ready for immediate deployment as needed.

Undersecretary Domingo emphasized that these reserves will be released to affected areas as the situation demands.

The DOH’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness underscores its commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of Filipinos affected by the ongoing severe weather conditions. This preparedness includes not only the provision of essential medicines but also hygiene and breastfeeding support, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to disaster relief.

Beyond the pre-positioning of supplies, the DOH is actively engaging in on-the-ground efforts. DOH personnel are conducting assessments and providing support at various evacuation centers in Metro Manila.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa recently visited schools serving as evacuation centers in Marikina City, highlighting the department’s commitment to providing direct assistance to those affected by the severe weather.

The DOH’s multi-pronged approach, combining proactive pre-positioning of resources with direct on-the-ground support, showcases a comprehensive strategy for addressing the health needs of Filipinos during this period of inclement weather.
