FORMER Bulacan first district engineer Henry Alcantara, who was previously dismissed from his post, has returned approximately ₱110 million in cash to the national treasury, according to Justice Acting Secretary Fredderick Vida on Friday. The turnover of funds is considered part of the restitution process.
“Ang cash turnover, ito po ay parte ng restitution (the cash turnover is part of the restitution),” Vida stated, emphasizing the significance of the returned funds. The specific reasons for Alcantara’s dismissal and the requirement for restitution were not immediately disclosed in the report.
Representatives from both the Bureau of Treasury and the Land Bank of the Philippines were present during the turnover to validate the amount, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process. The return of such a substantial sum raises questions about the circumstances surrounding Alcantara’s dismissal and the source of the funds. Further investigations may be warranted to determine the full extent of any potential wrongdoing and to ensure that all appropriate legal actions are taken.
