AKBAYAN Representative Chel Diokno today praised the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s (Pagcor) swift action in ordering the removal of all gambling-related out-of-home advertisements.
Diokno stated that the move aligns with a key objective of House Bill No. 1351, the Kontra E-Sugal bill, recently filed by the Akbayan Reform bloc.
While commending Pagcor’s decision, Diokno urged the agency to extend its directive to include online gambling advertisements on social media platforms.
He highlighted the need to curb the reach and influence of these ads, particularly among vulnerable populations.
“This is a significant step,” Diokno said in a statement. “But the fight against the harmful effects of online gambling requires a multi-pronged approach.”
He expressed hope that Pagcor will consider and implement other critical provisions of the Kontra E-Sugal bill while awaiting its passage, further strengthening protections against online gambling’s negative impacts.
