IT has been the decision of president-elect Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to appoint vice-president-elect ‘Inday’ Sara Duterte-Carpio as the next education secretary of his Cabinet and this has been welcomed by the various employees unions of the Department of Education (DepEd).

In a joint statement, the DepEd National Employees Union (NUE), DepEd Teachers Union-National Teachers Association (DTU-NTAI), Kaakbay ng Guro, Inc and National Parent-Teachers Association (NPTA) backed the former senator’s decision, saying that the presidential daughter and outgoing Davao City mayor will be able to continue the current programs of the current DepEd chief, Secretary Leonor Briones.

Last Wednesday, May 13, Marcos Jr. announced the appointment of Duterte, adding that she has already accepted the DepEd position.

DepEd sources disclosed that they issued an official manifesto to this effect that was signed by DTU-NTAI national president Cynthia Ibale-Villarin, NUE national president Atty. Domingo Alidon, national president, NPTA founding president Wilfredo Rodriguez and Kaakbay ng Guro representative Fernando Petite.
