THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday suspended the proclamation of Duterte Youth and Bagong Henerasyon (BH) party-lists due to pending petitions challenging their election victories.
The decision was announced by Comelec Chair George Erwin Garcia during the proclamation of winning party-lists at the Manila Hotel Tent City.
Garcia stated that the Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, acted on a May 17, 2025 recommendation from the supervisory committee to suspend the proclamation. The recommendation cited serious allegations of grave violations of election laws.
The proclamation of both party-lists will remain suspended pending a speedy resolution of the petitions filed with the Comelec.
Duterte Youth, with 2,338,564 votes, was poised to secure three seats in the House of Representatives, making it the second highest vote-getter in the party-list race. Bagong Henerasyon, with 319,803 votes, was set to receive one seat.
The suspension leaves a total of 52 party-lists to be proclaimed, with 63 seats allocated. Akbayan, with 2,779,621 votes, and Tingog, with 1,822,708 votes, have already been proclaimed and will each receive three seats in the House.
The Comelec did not specify the nature of the allegations against Duterte Youth and Bagong Henerasyon but emphasized the seriousness of the issues raised in the petitions. The suspension is expected to fuel further debate and scrutiny of the party-list system.
