NAGSIMULA na ang misyon ng Christmas convoy ng mga sibilyan para mamahagi ng donasyon at iba pang supply sa komunidad sa West Philippine Sea (WPS)
Sa kalatas, sinabi ng Akbayan Party na ang ATIN ITO campaign network ay umalis sa San Fernando Port sa El Nido, Palawan ng ala-1 ng madaling araw ng Linggo upang magsimulang maglayag sa Ayungin Shoal, Patag, at Lawak islands.
“[T]he mission aims to deliver donations and essential supplies to fisherfolk communities and frontliners, and bring the Christmas spirit to the area, as well as peacefully defend the country’s sovereignty against foreign intrusion and aggression,” ayon sa grupo.
Ang convoy na pinamumunuan ni TS Kapitan Felix Oca ay kinabibilangan ng youth at student leaders, sectoral leaders, mangingisda at miyembro ng media.
Ineskortan sila ng tatlong Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels sa pangunguna ng BRP Melchora Aquino.
Umalis ang unang batch ng Christmas convoy ng Maynila para sa El Nido, Palawan, Biyernes ng umaga.
Nauna nang hiniling ng ATIN ITO ang pagdadala ng supply sa BRP Sierra Madre ngunit pinayagan lamang sila ng National Security Council (NSC) sa Ayungin Shoel dahil na rin sa seguridad.
Sinabi ni Akbayan Party President Rafaela David, co-convenor ng ATIN ITO, na ito ang unang pagkakataon na lalahok ang sibilyan sa supply mission sa WPS. “We are all proud pioneers of this effort, laying the blueprint for more civilian missions in the future. We hope these endeavors will normalize the movement and presence of our citizens in our own territory, address China’s intrusion and aggression in the region and strengthen our country’s foreign policy based on people’s solidarity,” sabi nito.
