BI operatives nab 5 Korean fugitives in Pampanga, NCR

admin May 7, 2022

THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of five South Koreans wanted for serious crimes in their country.

In a statement, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the aliens were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday, in separate operations conducted in Metro Manila and Pampanga, by operatives from the Bureau’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

“They will all be deported for being undesirable aliens, aside from being included in our blacklist and banned from reentering the Philippines,” Morente said.

He added that the Koreans are also undocumented and overstaying as their passports were already cancelled by the Korean government.

BI-FSU Chief Rendel Ryan Sy identified the Korean arrested last Wednesday at the Clark Freeport in Mabalacat, Pampanga as Kang Ju Hwan, 39, who is wanted by Korean authorities for illegal gambling.

An arrest warrant was issued against him by the Busan district court where he was criminally charged for allegedly operating illegal gambling sites on the Internet which did not pay or return dividends based on the results of the game.

Kang and his cohorts earned an estimated 900 million won from the said racket which they operated from February to August 2019.

On Thursday, FSU agents first arrested in Parañaque City a certain Paek Sanghun, 41, who is wanted in Korea for telecommunications fraud.

He was issued an arrest warrant by the Suwon district court in South Korea for allegedly engaging in voice phishing operations that defrauded victims of more than half a million dollars.

Arrested on the same day in Batasan Hills, Quezon City were Song Jongmin, 40, and Kim Kyungmo, 32, who are both wanted for fraud.

Son is subject of an arrest warrant from the central district court in Seoul where he was charged with fraud, while Kim is wanted to stand trial before the Busan district court where he was charged with engaging in telecommunications fraud and voice phishing.

Meanwhile, arrested in an establishment along Timog Ave., Quezon City was Yang Minseong, 32.

Arrest warrants were issued against Yang in South Korea for allegedly being a member of a criminal syndicate and for economic crimes. He was tagged by Korean authorities as one of the leaders of ‘Kang Minho Pa’, a voice phishing syndicate that defrauded over 1 Billion Korean Won from their victims.

Morente commended the BI FSU for the arrests. “We will not stop until we have deported all illegal aliens and fugitives from our country,” said Morente.
