20% discount for indigent job applicants pushed

admin February 7, 2023

THE House Committee on Poverty Alleviation chaired by Rep. Michael Romero, Ph.D. (Party-list, 1-PACMAN) on Tuesday approved the creation of a technical working group (TWG) to craft the substitute bill for several measures seeking to grant indigent job applicants with 20 percent discount when paying fees and charges for certain government certificates and clearances.

The TWG will be headed by Committee Vice Chairperson Rep. Ana York Bondoc (4th District, Pampanga).

For consolidation are House Bills 367, 2533, 3048,  3533, 3604, 4762, 4828, 5553 and 5792 authored by Reps. Marissa ‘Del Mar’ Magsino, Lani Mercado-Revilla, Paolo Duterte, Oscar Malapitan, Ralph Wendel Tulfo, Ernesto Dionisio Jr., Samuel Verzosa Jr., Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza, and Rep. Gus Tambunting, respectively.

Romero urged all government agencies concerned to submit to the committee the amount they charge for their respective certificates and the income they would miss in the implementation of the proposed 20 percent discount when the measure is enacted into law.

Representatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Justice, Department of Migrant Workers, among others, expressed support for the enactment of the proposal which shall lessen the financial burden of indigents seeking gainful employment to become productive members of society.
