THE Philippine National Police reported the arrest of two Philippine Army soldiers and two Philippine National Police (PNP) and three more civilians firing their guns indiscriminately over the holiday.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the PNP recorded at least seven incidents of illegal discharge of firearms since December 16.
The incidents resulted in at least one person wounded and five persons arrested and facing charges of illegal discharge of firearms, the official said.
The five, including the Army members and police officers, had their guns confiscated, Fajardo said.
Two other suspects, however, remain identified and at large.
Fajardo noted that around this time last year, there were already 26 incidents of illegal discharge of firearms, with 10 people wounded.
She said the incidents involving the PNP members took place in Metro Manila and Davao Region.
But one of them turned out to be experiencing a “family problem” and fired his gun to the ground three times, while the other fired his gun after trying to pacify an unruly crowd engaged in cockfighting, Fajardo said.
