THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported 19 deaths and 19 injuries relating to the October 30, 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Comelec spokesman Atty. John Rex Laudiangco said the figures cover August 28 to October 30, the latter being the day of the polls.
Laudiangco said 113 other incidents are being investigated.
A total of 237 incidents of violence suspected to be related to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) have been monitored so far, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday, according to GMA News.
At a press conference, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said 35 of these incidents have been confirmed to be connected with the polls while 99 are unrelated.
There are 103 incidents that are still being validated if they are connected with the BSKE.
“Umabot na po sa 237 ang naitala nating insidente. Ang confirmed election-related incidents ay 35 pa rin po. But iyong suspected related incidents…nasa 103 ang ini-imbestigahan pa rin natin. At ninety-nine pa rin po ang non-ERI,” she said.
(The number of recorded incidents reached 237. The confirmed election-related incidents are still 35. But the suspected election-related incidents that we are still investigating are 103. Non-ERIs are still 99.)
Most of the confirmed incidents of violence related to the polls were reported in Bangsamoro with 13 cases, followed by Cordillera with five, and Northern Mindanao with four.
Three cases were reported each in Ilocos and Eastern Visayas. Two cases each in the Bicol Region and Central Visayas. One case each was reported in Calabarzon, Zamboanga, and the National Capital Region.
Of the 35 validated incidents, 17 were shooting incidents, four were mauling, two kidnapping, two light threats, two harassments, an armed encounter, indiscriminate firing, robbery among others.
