16, 820 cops to undergo career courses for election duties in May

TO beef-up security preparations for the forthcoming May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections, some 16,820 uniformed personnel ((1,208 Police Commissioned Officers (PCOs) and 15,612 Police Non-Commissioned Officers (PNCOs)) of the Philippine National Police, nationwide, who are undergoing mandatory career courses and field training exercises will be deployed for election duties, PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos confirmed on Thursday.

A ceremonial turn-over was undertaken on April 7 at Camp Crame where a total of 1,007 police officers consisting of 611 PCOs undergoing Officers Senior Executive Course (OSEC), Officer’s Advance Course (OAC), Public Safety Basic Officer’s Course (PSOBC), among others, and 396 PNCOs where officially turned-over by the PNP Directorate for Human Resource and Doctrine Development (DHRDD) to the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM).

Gracing the ceremony was Philippine National Police Chief General Dionardo Carlos who commended all police officers who will be deployed for election duties for the self-sacrifice and the dedicated effort they offer in the name of public service.

“All of us here today share the same aspiration of ushering a peaceful, honest, and fair national and local elections and restore the trust and credibility in the electoral process abound. Undeniably, there is no cause more worthy than the cause of ensuring that the loftiest exercise of the democratic right to suffrage by the Filipino citizens will be pursued this forthcoming National and Local May 2022 Elections,” Carlos said.

Meanwhile, a simultaneous turn-over of some 15,813 PCOs and PNCOs from the 17 Police Regional Offices were likewise undertaken by the respective Regional Task Groups of the PNP Security Task Force NLE 2022.

“As you assume election duties, may you be reminded of the primordial goal of every police officer to always provide a professional, fast, efficient, and courteous response to a legitimate citizen’s request for police service or assistance. Let us always ensure that the judicious use of police authority shall be grounded on the respect for human dignity, transparency, integrity, accountability, rule of law, and democratic governance,” PGen Carlos said.
