A CASE for vote-buying has been filed before the Navotas regional trial court against a woman caught distributing envelopes with money to residents and voters of a Malabon barangay.
The Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office had issued a resolution finding probable cause to charge Maribel Policarpio with violating Section 261 (a) 1 of the Omnibus Election Code.
The corresponding information against her was subsequently filed at the Office of the Clerk of Court of the Navotas City RTC.
The Navotas City Comelec office, represented by lawyer Gregorio Bonifacio, filed the complaint against Policarpio.
It had received a tip-off about a meeting organized by Policarpio, and with the help of the police, it caught her in the act of distributing envelopes containing P300 each to the attendees.
Also found on her were photocopies of IDs belonging to the residents of Barangay Longos in Malabon, documents containing voters’ information, and a poster of a barangay captain candidate.
The complaint against her was supported by the joint affidavit of 198 witnesses.
Policarpio was subjected to inquest proceedings, during which she said she wanted to submit the complaint for immediate resolution.
