The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of an American man wanted in his home country for military desertion.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco detailed the arrest of Johnmark Katipunan Tandoc, 32, along Roxas Boulevard last August 7.
Tandoc is the subject of a summary deportation order from the BI after he has been tagged as an undesirable and undocumented alien, posing potential risks to public safety.
The US government earlier this year informed the BI that Tandoc was a fugitive from justice. He was said to have an outstanding warrant of arrest in the US for military desertion issued by the US Armed Forces, where he had previously served as a Specialist.
Tandoc was likewise found to be undocumented, as his passport already expired.
“The success of this operation is a testament to the strong partnership between our two nations in ensuring that fugitives are caught and made to face their crimes,” said Tansingco. “We will continue to work closely with our international counterparts to address threats to security and uphold the law,” he added.
He will remain in the BI’s facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending the implementation of his deportation.
