Two dead, one injured after dig site collapse in Las Piñas

Metrosundaily June 29, 2026

TWO workers lost their lives while another sustained injuries following the collapse of a deep excavation site in Barangay Pamplona II, Las Piñas City, on Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2026.

According to Fire Superintendent Sonny Carlo, City Fire Marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Las Piñas, the incident took place at around 2:52 p.m., when five workers became trapped inside the nearly 18-meter deep hole they were digging. Rescue teams were immediately deployed to pull the workers out from the dangerous site.

Of the five workers involved, three were rescued alive, while two were confirmed dead. Authorities clarified that all victims are Filipino nationals, correcting earlier circulating reports that claimed two Chinese citizens were among those affected.

The water concessionaire Maynilad later confirmed that the location was one of its project sites, adding that it quickly coordinated with the BFP, barangay officials, and local authorities to carry out emergency response and retrieval operations. Work at the site has been suspended indefinitely as investigations proceed to determine the exact cause of the cave‑in.

Maynilad assured the public that it is cooperating closely with its contractor to provide all necessary assistance and support to the affected workers and their families. However, relatives of the victims expressed frustration, saying they were not promptly informed about the accident when it happened. Both the company and local authorities have committed to keeping the families updated and ensuring that proper safety protocols will be reviewed and enforced moving forward.
