A SEVERE localized thunderstorm brought unprecedented torrential rains to northern Metro Manila on August 30, 2025, resulting in significant flooding in several areas of Quezon City.
The storm, which occurred between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, unleashed an extraordinary amount of rainfall in a short period.
The DOST-PAGASA Science Garden Station in Quezon City recorded a staggering 134.2 mm of rainfall in just 3 hours – equivalent to nearly a week’s worth of rain.
The peak rainfall intensity reached a remarkable 96.6 mm in just one hour, between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Flood monitoring stations in the Tullahan and Pasig Rivers reached alarm and critical levels.
DOST-PAGASA is urging the public to closely monitor thunderstorm advisories and rainfall warnings for their safety.
