THOUSANDS of members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo assembled near the People Power Monument along EDSA on Tuesday morning, June 30.
The gathering drew a massive turnout, with the area becoming crowded as early as 6:45 a.m. as more participants arrived and filled the stretch of the major thoroughfare.
Authorities noted that the scale of the assembly was larger than initially expected. According to the Quezon City Police District, the sudden surge in the number of attendees prompted them to step up monitoring and deploy additional personnel to oversee the situation. Police presence was increased particularly around the EDSA–White Plains section to ensure the safety of everyone present.
While the gathering caused heavy foot traffic and some congestion in the vicinity, officials said they are closely coordinating with organizers to maintain order. No untoward incidents have been reported so far, and authorities continue to assess the flow of the activity to ensure it proceeds peacefully and does not severely disrupt the movement of vehicles and commuters along the busy highway.
