POLICE have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of a man found bound and bloodied in a hotel room in Cubao, Quezon City.
The suspect is reportedly the victim’s boyfriend.
According to a report by Mariz Umali on GMA News 24 Oras this Friday, the suspect was apprehended after sending a text message to a friend of the victim, demanding P4,000 for the return of the victim’s motorcycle, which they had taken.
The friend, who owns the motorcycle, became suspicious after receiving the text message on Friday, even though the victim had already been found dead in the hotel room on Thursday night. The friend had previously lent the victim money on Wednesday.
The friend contacted the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The suspect declined to give a statement but reportedly admitted to police that he had been in a relationship with the victim for four months.
Police Major Jennifer Gannaban, QCPD PIO Chief, stated that witnesses were able to identify the suspect and obtain his name from an ID he left behind when checking into the hotel.
Hotel staff discovered the body after the victim and suspect exceeded their 24-hour stay and did not respond to knocks on the door. Police found the room in disarray and discovered drug paraphernalia on the bed.
The suspect allegedly admitted that they frequently checked into the hotel and used illegal drugs there.
The suspect claims that an accomplice, who is still at large, committed the crime, including the murder. In addition to the motorcycle, the suspects also took other belongings of the victim. Authorities are continuing to search for the remaining suspects, believed to be two in number.
