A DEVASTATING fire engulfed a four-storey residential building in Sampaloc, Manila, early Saturday morning, claiming the lives of six people, including two children and four adults.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received the initial report of the fire at 2:40 a.m. and raised the first alarm at 2:49 a.m., followed by a second alarm just a minute later. Firefighters and volunteers faced challenges accessing the affected area due to a narrow entrance that could only accommodate one person at a time.
The blaze, which occurred at the corner of Laong Laan and Blumentritt Roads, tragically resulted in the deaths of two families. Three bodies were discovered on the second floor, while the remaining victims were found on the ground floor. The second floor, which was constructed with wooden flooring, collapsed onto the floor below.
The BFP is currently investigating the cause of the fire, with a possible electrical wiring problem being considered as a potential factor.
