Shabu inside kimchi container: BI foils another drug smuggle attempt

admin October 19, 2022

IMMIGRATION agents foiled an attempt of an American and a Korean, to smuggle illegal drugs to the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Detention Center in Bicutan, Taguig.

BI Warden Facility Officer-in-Charge Adelfo Marasigan identified the foreigners as Robert Wayne Boling, Jr., 41, and Kwon Hyeok Soo, 41 who tried to bring in two sachets of shabu that weighed almost seven grams last October 4.

“The narcotic substance was found hidden inside a Korean stew that was delivered for Boling,” Marasigan added.

It can be recalled that in September 21, Korean national Yang Heejun was also caught sneaking in four grams of shabu found wrapped in plastic inside a kimchi container.

According to Marasigan, the BI agents started to be suspicious when they noticed that the food delivery requested by Boling was almost the same time as Yang’s back in September.

Boling reportedly confessed, however, he said that he was only asked to seek approval for the delivery of the food supplies, and that the real owner of the said supplies was Kwon.

Both Boling and Kwon were apprehended and are awaiting charges for violation of Republic Act no. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

Marasigan said that the center will be on a lockdown during investigations on the case.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco then lauded the BI agents stationed at the detention center. “This is our officers’ second drug apprehension in three weeks,” he said. “And although it is highly commendable, we assure the public that the Bureau will not allow these foreigners to use our detention facility as a center for their illegal drug trade,” he added.

Boling and Kwon will be criminally charged and prosecuted in court, and if convicted, shall serve their sentence in the country before they can be deported.
