Second ‘smuggled’ Bugatti sport luxury car surrendered by owner to Customs intel

admin February 22, 2024

THE second of the illegally imported Bugatti Chiron sport luxury cars was surrendered by its owner, said the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday.

The BOC said the owner of the blue Bugatti Chiron luxury car surrendered the vehicle to the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS).

The red Bugatti Chiron was previously surrendered by its owner to Customs early this month after the bureau offered cash rewards to informants who can help locate the illegally imported luxury cars estimated to cost around $3 million each.

Last Saturday, BOC Deputy Commissioner Michael Fermin said the agency already has information on the location of the remaining Bugatti Chiron that BOC aims to seize.

The blue Bugatti with plate number NIM 5448 was allegedly registered under the name of a certain Thu Trang Nguyen, while the red one with plate number of NIM 5450 was registered under a certain Meng Jun Zhu.

“Today, we are happy to report that the blue Bugatti sports car we’ve been looking for was finally surrendered to the BOC. The fact that the mission took barely three weeks speaks of the hard work and commitment we put into this since we appealed to the public to help us find these motor vehicles,” said Customs Commissioner Bien Rubio.

Despite surrendering the car, the owners are still face charging for violating Section 1401 in relation to Section 1113 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), according to the BOC.

The two smuggled sports cars were the subject of Senator Raffy Tulfo’s speech early this week, where he disclosed that the luxury cars were registered with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) using fake documents from the BOC.
