Romualdez, Tingog, DSWD bring relief to 3,000 Navotas families

admin July 26, 2024

SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez visited Navotas City late Thursday afternoon to bring relief and food packs to 3,000 evacuees and their families who were displaced by the recent flooding during the onslaught of the southwest monsoon as exacerbated by Typhoon Carina.

Speaker Romualdez also joined an ocular inspection of the damaged Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate and Pumping Station in Navotas City accompanied by Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., Appropriations panel chair Rep. Zaldy Co, Navotas Rep. Tobias “Toby” Tiangco, and Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco.

“Hatid ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. ang tulong sa mga nasalanta ng kalamidad. Nandito kami para ipadama, ilapit at ipaabot sa mga mamamayan ang serbisyo ng pamahalaan,” said Speaker Romualdez who delivered the relief in partnership with the Tingog Partylist, and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“Madami pa tayong pupuntahang mga evacuation centers. Ipaaabot natin sa mga nabiktima ng Habagat at bagyong Carina ang tulong ng pamahalaan, nasaan man silang panig ng bansa. Alam ng ating Pangulo ang sitwasyon at may direktiba na para sa pagtulong sa mga nasalanta,” the leader of the 300-plus-strong House of Representatives added.

A total of 1,000 relief packs from DSWD as facilitated by the Office of the Speaker and Tingog Partylist has already been forwarded to the evacuees and remaining 2,000 Puregold relief packs from Speaker Romualdez and Tingog were scheduled to be delivered this Friday in coordination with Rep. Tiangco, Mayor Tiangco, and local government officials.

On Thursday, Speaker Romualdez and the damaged floodgate inspection team saw for themselves the extent of the flooding in areas of Malabon and Navotas.

According to Rep. Tiangco, the navigational gate would have prevented severe flooding in Navotas and neighboring areas had it been operating without any damage.

Earlier in the day, Speaker Romualdez called for a review of the flood control master plan to ensure proper implementation of projects and efficient use of funds.
