THE Quezon City Regional Trial Court has provisionally dismissed the syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment case filed against broadcaster Jay Sonza.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said that Branch 100 made the provisional dismissal decision due to the complainant’s absence during hearings.
Additionally, Branch 215 also granted a provisional dismissal of the illegal recruitment case involving Sonza.
Provisionally dismissed means the possibility of reactivating the case within a two-year span, provided there is fresh evidence or a valid reason for reopening it, according to a news article published by abogado.com.ph
Despite these developments, Sonza will remain in detention due to ongoing cases before the court. He is facing 11 counts of estafa in QC RTC Branch 100 and a libel case in QC RTC Branch 77.
Recent confirmation from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reveals that Sonza has been apprehended on charges of estafa and related offenses.
Following a period of detention, he has been relocated to a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility located in Quezon City.
NBI Assistant Director Glenn Ricarte disclosed that Sonza’s attempt to travel to Hong Kong on July 18, 2023, was thwarted when immigration authorities discovered a pending estafa case and an outstanding arrest warrant for syndicated and large-scale illegal recruitment.
Initially held by the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Sonza was subsequently transferred to the NBI and later to the BJMP.
