POLICE investigators are conducting backtracking investigation on the case of Atty. Joseph Samuel Zapta, Deputy Chief of Internal Inquiry Division of the Bureau of Customs, was shot along Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City on April 4.
The investigation aims to identify the route where the lawyer passed by to see a trail of the suspects for possible identification of the getaway motorcycle.
Two still unidentified suspects opened fire on the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene afterward.
Interviewed relatives of the legal counsel said that they have no idea who can be behind the crime because they do not know of anyone who has an ill intention against the victim.
“It may be difficult to establish the motive if there is no concrete evidence directing to a possible suspect. The victim’s testimony is of the essence here. His profession as a lawyer is an angle we are looking at,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said.
Pasay City Scene of Crime Operations (SOCO) examiners were able to recover five (5) pieces of fired cartridge cases of 9mm ammunition submitted for ballistic and cross-matching examination.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is conducting a parallel probe of the incident.
