THE Metro Manila police have confirmed that protesters from the Iglesia ni Cristo will not be dispersed at this time, according to office spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo.
She made the announcement past 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, clarifying that no order has been issued to clear the area despite the group gathering without a rally permit.
Asilo explained that authorities are currently engaged in ongoing negotiations with the leadership of the religious organization to ensure the activity remains peaceful and orderly. While the assembly lacks the required permit, the police have opted to prioritize dialogue and coordination rather than resorting to immediate action. She added that a forceful dispersal would only be considered if tensions rise or if the situation turns chaotic and threatens public safety.
As of 1:00 p.m. on the same day, police estimates placed the size of the crowd at around 12,000 people. Authorities continue to monitor the area closely to manage traffic flow and maintain security, while emphasizing their commitment to balance the right to assemble with the need to keep public spaces safe and accessible for everyone.
