Pasay City declares red alert amid heightened tensions around Senate

admin May 14, 2026

THE Pasay City government has placed the area under red alert status due to escalating tensions surrounding the Senate compound, where a major security standoff and dramatic developments unfolded over the past 24 hours.

According to an advisory issued by the Pasay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PCDRRMO), various local agencies have been placed on heightened alert to ensure full readiness and rapid response to any incident or emergency that may arise amid the ongoing crisis.

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto‑Rubiano confirmed that all emergency response teams, rescue personnel, traffic management units, and other city departments are on full standby mode.

They remain ready for immediate deployment and are closely coordinating with national law enforcement agencies and security forces securing the Senate premises. The measure comes after gunshots were reported inside the building, followed by a lockdown, power outage, and the confirmed departure of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa in the early hours of Thursday — events that have kept the area volatile and crowded with media, supporters, and authorities.

The mayor urged residents, workers, motorists, and visitors in the vicinity to remain vigilant, cooperate fully with authorities, and closely follow official announcements and updates regarding the situation.

She emphasized that public safety and order remain the top priority, and asked the public to stay calm but alert as security measures continue to be enforced around the legislative complex. Motorists passing through major roads near the Senate have also been advised to expect heavy traffic and possible temporary road control operations, as security checkpoints and restricted zones remain in effect to secure the area.

The city government assured the public that inter‑agency coordination is continuous and active, with local officials working hand‑in‑hand with police, military, and other agencies to maintain peace, order, and safety throughout Pasay City. Authorities remain on high alert as investigations continue into the gunshot incident and the circumstances surrounding Dela Rosa’s departure, ensuring that any further developments are addressed swiftly to prevent disruption or danger to the community.
