THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized counterfeit cellular phone products valued at P74 million in Manila’s Quiapo district.
This operation was carried out based on eight search warrants issued for seven warehouses in the High Infinity Building and a store in Manila City Plaza, all situated in the bustling Quiapo shopping district.
These coordinated actions led to the confiscation of a significant quantity of fake batteries, LCDs, chargers, and earphones bearing a trademark, with an estimated value of Php74,738,072.00.
Charges under Republic Act 8293, the Intellectual Property Code, are being prepared against the individuals responsible for selling these counterfeit products.
Additionally, the seized items will be destroyed to prevent their resale.
The NBI is urging the public to refrain from supporting counterfeit products, aiming to curb the demand for imitation goods.
The bureau also pledged to intensify its efforts in carrying out raids on establishments engaged in the sale of counterfeit goods, with the aim of curbing illicit trade activities.
