THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced the suspension of the Expanded Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), also known as the number coding scheme, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. This suspension is in observance of the Chinese New Year, which has been declared a special non-working holiday.
The automatic suspension of the number coding scheme on official and special non-working holidays is a standard practice aimed at easing traffic flow and allowing residents to travel more freely during these periods. The MMDA typically makes this announcement in advance to give motorists ample time to plan their trips accordingly.
However, despite the suspension of number coding, motorists are still advised to anticipate potentially heavy traffic congestion in certain areas, particularly in locations like Binondo in Manila, where Chinese Filipinos traditionally gather to celebrate the New Year. The influx of people and vehicles in these areas can lead to significant traffic delays.
