RECOGNIZING the need to help riders and cyclists who inadvertently experience their rides breaking down while traveling, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) inaugurated today a motorcycle and bicycle repair station at the ground level of Quezon Avenue flyover on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) for those who need emergency road assistance.

According to MMMDA chairman Atty. Romando Artes, the idea of putting up the repair station was prompted by recent reports wherein several of the two-wheeled vehicles have figured in various accidents and hampered the smooth flow of traffic on the road.

Artes announced that the repair station, that will be open from 5:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening, is equipped with basic repair and vulcanizing tools as well as trained MMDA personnel who will help those whose bikes and motorcycles broke down on the road.

“Currently, there are two repair stations in EDSA and another one in Roxas Boulevard. The thrust of this project is to provide free space and assistance in cases where emergency repairs are needed rather than towing the vehicles, outright. The only time the vehicle will be towed is when it is beyond repair,” he explained at the repair station’s launch.

Artes likewise announced that the MMDA will also be putting up more motorcycle and bicycle repair stations in different strategic locations all over Metro Manila where cyclists and motorcycle riders usually traverse and will eventually expand the project to also cater to four-wheel vehicles.

Congressman-elect Bonifacio Bosita of 1Rider Party-list, who is also present during the event, expressed support for the project.

“This will surely make the rider community happy since they now have a place to go to in case they need emergency repairs,” Bosita said.
