THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced a comprehensive list of alternative routes for motorists ahead of the EDSA Rebuild Project, set to commence on June 13th.
In a Facebook post, the MMDA detailed seven northbound and fifteen southbound alternative routes to help mitigate the expected traffic congestion during the road repairs. Motorists are also urged to utilize the Mabuhay Lanes where available.
The EDSA rehabilitation project, undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is in preparation for the 2026 ASEAN Summit hosted by the Philippines.
To further manage traffic flow during the repairs, the MMDA will implement an odd-even number coding scheme on EDSA, starting with a one-month dry run on June 16th. The MMDA indicated that this scheme may be extended depending on its effectiveness.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon provided reassurance regarding the continued operation of the EDSA Busway throughout the project.
“The EDSA Busway will not be closed even during the rehabilitation of EDSA,” Dizon stated. He explained that buses may temporarily use regular lanes in sections undergoing repairs before returning to the busway once the work is completed.
However, the possibility of using the busway for emergency vehicles is still under consideration. The MMDA’s proactive release of alternative routes and implementation of the odd-even scheme aim to minimize disruption for commuters during the extensive EDSA rehabilitation project.Share
