MMDA suspends Go over viral shaming of teacher in traffic operation

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended Gabriel Go, chief of the Special Operations Group – Task Force for Road Clearing, from all clearing operations pending a probe into his alleged public humiliation of a public school teacher.

The incident stemmed from an apprehension for riding a motorcycle without a helmet, which Go documented and posted on his personal Facebook page last July 14, sparking widespread public concern.

In the viral video, the teacher can be heard pleading not to be recorded, but Go continued filming, claiming the individual’s face would be blurred anyway.

The ACT Teachers Party‑List acknowledged that not wearing a helmet is a valid traffic violation but emphasized that no offense justifies subjecting anyone to public embarrassment. The group has called for Go’s removal from his post, citing repeated breaches of agency rules—specifically the unauthorized sharing of official operations on social media for what they described as personal motives.

The MMDA has since issued a Show Cause Order requiring Go to explain why no disciplinary action should be taken against him. Authorities are currently conducting a full investigation to establish the facts, determine if proper protocols were followed, and ensure that all personnel uphold both traffic laws and the dignity of the public they serve.
