MMDA: No number coding suspension for Monday’s SONA

Metrosundaily July 26, 2026

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) confirmed on Sunday that the number coding scheme will remain in effect on Monday, July 27, during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III made the announcement in a radio interview, stating clearly: “There is no suspension of the number coding that was announced.” The clarification comes amid public expectations that traffic rules might be relaxed to accommodate the event at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

To maintain order and safety, the MMDA will deploy approximately 500 personnel along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, with a mobile command center set up near Batasan Road. “For traffic management, road clearing, medical teams, and emergency response, we will have around 500 people deployed in the area,” Torre explained. The personnel will be on hand to manage vehicle flow, enforce regulations, and respond immediately to any incidents near the venue.

Motorists have been advised to take alternate routes, as heavy congestion is anticipated along Commonwealth Avenue, IBP Road, and other major thoroughfares surrounding the legislative complex. The MMDA urged the public to plan their trips ahead of time, observe traffic signs, and cooperate with deployed personnel to ensure the orderly conduct of the SONA and minimize travel disruptions.
