Marcos eyes partial Metro Manila subway operation by 2028

admin July 16, 2025

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism that a portion of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) could be operational by 2028.

During an inspection of the Camp Aguinaldo station on Wednesday, Marcos stated his hope for completion to Valenzuela City by 2028, potentially allowing for an inauguration that year.

He emphasized the need to expedite the project, stating that everyone agrees on the urgency to improve the commuting experience for Filipinos. The President’s comments followed the launch of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) CP103 from the Camp Aguinaldo station towards Ortigas station.

As of June 30, the TBM has progressed 281.74 meters, reaching the Camp Aguinaldo-White Plains boundary and is projected to reach Corinthian Properties by the end of 2025. Upon completion, the MMSP will comprise 17 stations and a 30.34-hectare depot.

The 33-kilometer railway line will connect Valenzuela City to Pasay City, with a spur line extending to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.

The project’s extensive network will include interconnectivity with existing rail systems such as LRT1, MRT3, MRT7, LRT2, and the NSCR-Ex, significantly enhancing Metro Manila’s transportation infrastructure.

The President’s target date highlights the administration’s commitment to improving public transportation in the country.

The ambitious timeline underscores the government’s efforts to address the challenges of urban mobility in Metro Manila.

The progress made on the MMSP, particularly the successful launch of the TBM and its continued advancement, offers a positive outlook for the project’s timely completion and the potential for significant improvements in commuting conditions for residents of Metro Manila. The project’s interconnectivity with other rail lines is expected to create a more efficient and integrated public transportation system.
