THE much-awaited third State of the National Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. began, was met with multi-sectoral rallies to counter the President’s report.
In the early hours of the morning, various anti-government groups, led by Bayan Southern Tagalog, started marching where the effigy of Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte was burned.
The flow of traffic along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City was disrupted due to the rally and burning of the giant effigy.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte had already stated that no one would be arrested for burning effigies during Marcos’ SONA.
“We will not arrest anyone. In fact, the law mentioned, our QCPD with regards to effigy, when I studied the law, it refers to the distance,” Belmonte said. “So, if it’s within 100 meters, burning effigies is prohibited. But beyond 100 meters, the law does not mention any prohibition,” added the mayor.”
