SENATOR Rodante Marcoleta was formally transferred to the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory in Payatas on Wednesday morning, July 15, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirmed.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) received the senator at 10:49 a.m., following a commitment order issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division in relation to the plunder case filed against him.
The transfer came after medical authorities cleared Marcoleta for detention. Earlier on the same day, Philippine General Hospital Director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi stated that the senator no longer required hospital admission as his health condition had significantly improved. He did, however, recommend that Marcoleta undergo one week of isolation, after he was initially confined at the Philippine National Police General Hospital for pneumonia.
The DILG also emphasized that the senator will be treated like any other detainee. “No person deprived of liberty under the Bureau’s custody shall be accorded special treatment,” the agency said in a statement, adding that the BJMP will carry out its duties with full professionalism, impartiality, and strict compliance with all existing rules and procedures.
