AN editor of the Manila Bulletin has been subpoenaed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over allegation of hackings of government website, commercial banks and Facebook accounts.
The NBI-Cybercrime Division served a subpoena to Manila Bulletin Technology Editor and IT head, Art Samaniego, at the newspaper’s office in Intramuros, Manila.
NBI agents apprehended an information technology (IT) employee of the Manila Bulletin after he was accused, along with several others, of breaching government websites, commercial banks, and Facebook accounts.
According to NBI Cybercrime Division Chief, Atty. Jeremy Lotoc, one of the suspects admitted to hacking government and private websites allegedly at the behest of Samaniego, his superior.
“Based on the extrajudicial confession of the hacker, the directions on what to hack supposedly came from the editor, and after the hack, the editor allegedly took charge of exploiting the results,” Lotoc said.
The suspect alleged that the editor instructed him to hack the websites supposedly for the latter’s news column and social media accounts.
The latest website he supposedly hacked was the online application portal of 1Sambayan.
