A MAN asking P350,000 for sure enlistment in Coast Guard services was arrested by Philippine Coast Guard operatives in Baclaran, Paranaque on Friday.
In a report, PCG said that on December 2022, the Coast Guard Intelligence Force (CGIF) received a complaint from a PCG applicant regarding Omar Sampang who was allegedly offering him SURE ENLISTMENT in the Coast Guard service, provided that he will pay P350,000.
When the applicant said it was too big for him to pay immediately, Mr. Sampang told him to pay an initial amount of PHP 50,000.
Upon receipt of the complaint, CGIF operatives conducted further investigation and coordinated with the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) to set up an entrapment operation.
On 10 March 2023, the CGIF and PNP-CIDG operatives apprehended Sampang while receiving the marked money from a CGIF agent who acted as a PCG applicant.
As of press time, Sampang is under the custody of the PNP-CIDG for the booking process and filing of appropriate charges: estafa and usurpation of authority.
The PCG urges aspiring applicants to remain vigilant and report illegal recruiters for immediate action.
