Malaysian national arrested for trying to bribe police with P30k

admin October 11, 2023

FOR attempting to bribe police with P30,000 inside Taguig police station, a Malaysian national was arrested for violation of the Revised Penal Code on the corruption of public officials.

The Taguig police identified the suspect as Jack Boo, 33, a Malaysian national.

Boo was arrested at about 3:50 a.m. inside the Taguig police’s Substation 1 in Bonifacio Global City.

According to the police, Boo went to the police station and attempted to bribe police officers in exchange for the release of his friend, only identified by the police as Chong, a Malaysian national.

Chong was earlier arrested for alleged violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code on disobedience to an agent of a person in authority, resisting arrest, alarm and scandal, unjust vexation, and oral defamation.

The police said while officers were conducting routine patrol, they saw Chong outside the BBQ Restaurant at The Fort Strip in BGC, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was smoking in the parking area, which was designated as a no-smoking zone.

The officers approached the suspect and informed him about the no-smoking policy. Instead of complying, the suspect allegedly insulted the officers by attempting to bribe them to let him continue smoking. A security guard urged the suspect to stop and return inside the restaurant.

When the police reprimanded Chong, he became furious, went outside the restaurant, and cursed at female police officers and the security guard, SG Tortosa. His disruptive behavior in the area was the cause of his arrest.

The police seized P30,000, consisting of 30 pieces of P1,000 bills, used as bribe money from Boo, who was promptly arrested.

Southern Police District chief Brig. Gen. Roderick Mariano lauded the police for refusing the bribe.
