A 90-DAY preventive suspension on the license of the driver whose SUV vehicle crashed into a bank in Quezon City was imposed by Land Transportation Office Chief Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.

Mendoza also issued a show case order directing the driver and the female registered owner of the SUV to explain the circumstances that led to the incident on December 28.

Mendoza sent the LTO’s condolences to the family of the bank client who died as a result of the accident.

Another six individuals were injured.

The LTO said the driver, a resident of Baliuag, Bulacan, was directed to submit a notarized statement explaining why he should not be held liable for violation of Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 in connection with reckless driving, and violation of Section 27-B of the Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

It also directed the driver and the registered owner to appear before the LTO-National Capital Region on January 10.

If they fail to show up and submit their notarized affidavits on time, this would be considered a waiver of the right to be heard and contest the allegations.

The LTO’s own action is independent from the probe that the Philippine National Police is conducting, said Mendoza.

“Through our investigation, gusto nating malinawan kung ano ba talaga ang nangyari na nagresulta sa nakakalungkot na insidenteng ito,” he said.

According to initial reports, the SUV was reversing outside the bank when it hit a parked vehicle. It then moved forward and crashed into the bank.
