THE LRT-2 will begin offering free rides for students on August 22, Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) administrator Hernando Cabrera said Wednesday.
To avail of a free LRT-2 ticket, students will only have to present their school identification card (ID) or proof of enrollment to passenger assistants in the station.
“Ang gagawin lang ng mga estudyante, ipapakita nila ang kanilang ID or kanilang proof of enrollment sa ating passenger assistance center. Kapalit nito ay bibigyan sila ng single-journey ticket na pwede nilang gamitin,” Cabrera explained in a public briefing.
Cabrera said the Libreng Sakay program for students is based on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as schools and universities gradually return to full face-to-face classes.
LRT-2 will run its Libreng Sakay program for students until November 5 and will revert back to giving the regular 20% student discount soon after, said the LRTA official.
Many students are expected to benefit from the program since the LRT-2, which runs from Recto in Manila to Antipolo, Rizal, is situated along Manila’s “university belt.”
