MANILA Mayor Isko Moreno has appealed to Meta Philippines to restore control of the official Facebook page of the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO) which remains reportedly in the hands of former city employees.
During a meeting of the Manila Disaster Council, Moreno stressed the critical role of the page in disseminating accurate and timely information, particularly during emergencies.
He instructed Meta to transfer page administration to E-jhay Talagtag, the newly appointed PIO chief, emphasizing the page’s importance for public safety and efficient communication with city residents.
Moreno issued a strong warning to those responsible for retaining control of the page, stating his intention to pursue legal action. In a post on his personal Facebook page, he announced that the city would use alternative channels to disseminate information until the MPIO page is recovered.
He declared, “While the MPIO Facebook Page is still being held hostage, we will announce city news here for now. We will file a case against those responsible. It belongs to the government. There’s a new government in Manila, we will pursue you.”
This forceful response underscores the severity of the situation and the mayor’s determination to regain control of the city’s official communication channels.
