AS mayor-elect of Muntinlupa City, the city’s former House representative Rozzano Rufino ‘Ruffy’ Biazon is asking president-in-waiting Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. to have the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) maximum security compound transferred to another location.
In an interview, the outgoing solon reasoned out for his request to have the NBP’s transfer as apolitical and born out of his desire for the city to acquire what it deserves as a chartered city for the benefit of the local government and his constituency.
“Nais kong matiyak na magiging kapaki-pakinabang ang mga pag-aari ng lungsod. Wala naman kasing benepisyo ang lokal na pamahalaan sa pananatili ng NBP sa lungsod at napapanahon na para pakinabangan ng mga residente ang mga lupain sa Muntinlupa,” Biazon opined.
At present, the NBP is occupying 551 hectares of prime land in Barangay Poblacion in the central part of the city and belongs to its first legislative district. Two years ago, the House of Representatives passed a proposed measure for the establishment of a penal facility for those convicted of heinous crimes, such as drug trafficking, aggravated assault or murder, forcible rape and sexual molestation.
Based on the proposal, the said facility would be located in an area where those detained will have no outside communication as part of their penalty.
